A lovely little Tramp Art frame for your gallery wall.
Tramp art is a popular form of folk art that flourished in America from the 1870s through the 1940s. Cigar boxes and wood pieces from disassembled crates were notched, layered, and whittled into picture frames, elaborate boxes, and even full-sized furniture pieces.
The tramp-art style is thought to have originated in Germany and Scandinavia.
The lore persists that tramp art was made by wandering souls - and while there is some truth to this lore, many who produced tramp art were skilled craftspeople who devoted major amounts of time to their creative pursuits. Most tramp art is unsigned and undated.
