How to host for a big holiday party without compromising your personal style

Holiday Hosting Your Way

Hosting a big holiday party can sometimes feel daunting. The creative possibilities are endless, but it might feel like you need to stick to a theme or keep to the established rules. There’s really only one question you should be asking yourself: how do you want your guests to feel when they’re at your party? Keeping this, and a few other simple rules, in mind will make your fete feel like you, while still being “festive”. Read on for my personal checklist and some styling inspiration. Happy hosting!

Xx,

Kate

START WITH ONE THING

A lot of times I start with one Element and build from there. That way you can take the pressure off the finished product and you’ll find you arrive at a lovely outcome you didn't expect.

COZY COMFORT IS KEY

A cozy feeling is synonymous with making people feel at ease. You do that by not having any pretenses, letting people come as they are. You want them to leave feeling like your home is their home. You can establish coziness at your table with little accents your  guests will appreciate and be reassured by.

GATHER YOUR GREENERY

Flora is always a great way to showcase your flair. For any time of year the simplest way to bring your world to the table is to gather greenery from your backyard or while out on a walk. From there, simply trim your harvest and put the bouquet in a vase, tulipiere, or basket.

ADD A SPECIAL FLOURISH

Think about your personal flourish or signature. I like to set a formal table if I have guests coming over. That means that everyone gets a nice cloth napkin, a handwritten menu or some other special touch that’s signature “Kate”.

BEFORE YOU DIG IN - TOAST!

Take the few moments before you all dig into the meal to raise your glass to your guests and allow for an exchange of happy, grateful energy. Each person’s toast will be different, but it always makes the meal feel more at ease.
