A gorgeous set of 4 Imari Dessert plates by Staffordshire/ Wedgwood c. 1840-1848. There are 2 sets in total available.
Imari designs were inspired by traditional motifs imported from Japan and China to Europe in the early decades of the 18th Century, as a means for the aristocracy to showcase their wealth and exude luxury. Owners often made spectacular displays to showcase their Imari Wares. Herein is a lovely example of how the juxtaposed rich orange and indigo tones complement each other. Overlaid with gilt, this set is remarkably in tact for its age.
Crazing is evident on the plates, but only adds to their historical appeal. We have accompanying listings of this pattern in dinner plates, bread plates, & tea & saucer sets.
Plates are in excellent vintage condition.
