When we bring an Heirloom like this into our homes, we add depth and joy to our daily life. We notice beauty a bit more and we recognize the time and skill spent on a craft.
This is an Historical postage stamp quilt from approximately 1870 -1880. A traditional double nine patch quilt in excellent condition, which is treadle machine pieced and hand quilted, with tiny postage stamp pieces measuring a mere 3/4" per side. We imagine this piece framed and installed as a an exceptional focal piece in your home or as the quintessential foundation that pulls the guest bedroom together.
Beautifully made by a woman named Nettie Via of Preble City, Ohio. It measures 76" X 84" and is in excellent, never washed condition, with a couple of small brown spots (see photos) and no wear. The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall. There is straight line quilting throughout at an even 8-9 stitches to the inch, with faint pencil marks still visible in places. The back is white, the hand-stitched binding is solid red, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light. It can be used as a throw, a coverlet for a twin bed, or styled as a fabulous and unforgettable Tablecloth. See images for more detail. This vintage postage stamp quilt has been professionally cleaned one time. Sold as is, not refundable or eligible to return.
